Matlack Parlay 5: The Pac 12 Strikes Back

Written by Matlack

November 6, 2020

The Pac 12 returns despite the lack of leadership from their commissioner Larry Scott and I gotta say I couldn’t be more excited. The late Pac 12 game is always a shootout and to start it off with my Pac 12 favorite, THE Washington State Cougars, makes it all that much better. Arizona State vs USC is another matchup that I have my eye seeing as the teams have split wins the past two years since Herb Edwards took over in Tempe.

Outside the top 10, this week is loaded with fun games including two top ten matchups in Florida/Georgia and Clemson/Notre Dame as well as some really intriguing ACC (especially BC vs Syracuse) and Big10 (Michigan vs Indiana, Penn State vs Maryland) that can determine the hierarchy of the conferences. If that wasn’t enough we have a HUGE non power 5 matchup tonight in BYU vs Boise State that will have a significant impact in whether or not we could have some new blood in the college football playoff. There is definitely some free money out there and this is what I got for this week:

2020 Week 7:

What I love.

Arizona State (+10.5) vs USC

This is the classic “take the points” scenario. As I mentioned earlier USC and ASU have split games the past two years and ASU’s quarterback currently sports the third longest completions to interceptions ratio in the country(156 straight completions). Although it is hard to say how these teams will perform at a 9 am PT start time everything I am reading has this close in a low scoring game. It could very well be USC by 10 so I’m taking ASU and the points.

Houston vs Cincinnati (-13.5)

This one was a lot easier. Cincinnati is coming off big wins vs SMU and Memphis, both of which will finish top 4 in conference and their opponents average 300 yards of total offense which is top 20 in the country . Houston has been streaky at best and give up over 425 yards per game. Cincinnati will outclass Houston and there is potential for a blow out in this game.

South Alabama vs Coastal Carolina (-17.5)

17.5 is not a great number but Coastal is a good football team. They kicked the shit out a decent Georgia State football team and have yet to win by less than 14 points against their competition. South Alabama is 3-3 on the year and are simply average, their offense averages 381 yards per game, their defense gives up 393 yards per game and they have no quality wins to speak of. Coastal wins by at least 3 touchdowns, maybe 4.

What I like.

Duke vs UNC (-11.5)

Duke loses to good football teams, it is what they do. Their two wins this year are against Charlotte – yes that’s a football team – and Syracuse who is tied with them for the worst team in the ACC. Although I don’t think Duke is the worst team in the Power 5, I do believe UNC has a strong squad, especially their offense that averages over 500 yards per game. 11.5 feels a little low here so I am taking UNC to cover.

Florida vs Georgia (-2.5)

It is a tough afternoon slate and honestly there isn’t a whole lot that I like other than Cincinnati but I just simply like Georgia in this game. Outside of Bama, they haven’t let up more than 21 points in any game, three of which were against top 25 opponents. Florida averages 39 points per game but does not have significant offense numbers and this can be attributed to a weakish schedule thus far.

Rutgers vs Ohio State (-37.5)

Ohio State covers.
