The parlay hit last weekend. Well, with a slight asterisk being the Michigan State/Penn St game was a push – I got it at +15 rather than 14.5. It was a great day, an exciting day, however with the push it did not cover my losses for the year because of the lower odds.
Going into Championship weekend, there really isn’t too much to look into. Going back to a previous blog I wrote, Florida is overrated, Alabama has been rolling, and I still expect Ohio State to cover against a good Northwestern team. Covid has made its presence known again, cancelling a number of games this weekend – the biggest of them being the Sun Belt championship between Coastal and Louisiana. It is a little surprising they wouldn’t just award Coastal the Sun Belt title seeing as they have already beaten UL but that is neither here nor there, it just would have been fun to see an additional top 25 matchup.
I will only be doing the love list again this weekend due to the lack of games.
2020 Week 16:
Ohio State (-20) vs Northwestern
This is a year end principle pick. Ohio State has been really good in each game they played and although Northwestern has had a great year, in Northwestern standards, Michigan State got the best of them. Michigan State was a team who could not hold their own against Ohio State and it’s really all I need to know to lock this in. Ohio State covers.
Penn State (-15.5) vs Illinois
After watching the entire Penn State/Michigan State game, I think Penn State has righted the ship. They had a very poor beginning of the year, losing to Nebraska and Indiana, but other their other losses are actually to good team. Last week, Sean Clifford looked really good, showing off his skill with his legs as well as passing for over 230 yards and two touchdown passes. Illinois on the other hand has been the bottom of the Big 10 all year. They beat Rutgers and Nebraska but have lost handedly to Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Iowa and I don’t expect them to bring a lot to the game tomorrow. I’m taking PSU covering.
Alabama (-17) vs Florida
There is really only one way to wrap up the college football season and that is to bet on Bama, especially against one of my least favorite teams. Bama has been by far the best team in the country to my eye, averaging 49.5 points per game with just about 350 passing yards and 190 rushing yards. This team is a wagon and I do not believe in Florida after the LSU loss. I didn’t before that game but that sealed the deal. I’m taking Bama to cover and I’m taking DeVonta Smith as the Heisman winner, he truly deserves it.
