5 tips to improve your betting

  1. Look for the best lines. Lines change. You must bet at the right time. It only took Vegas a couple of hours to have the Conference Championship games’ lines after the Divisional round. The Bills and Chiefs started at +145 Bills and since moved down around +110 and EVEN. The book I use allows me to cash out, so I put down my bet when the lines came out, knowing I can get my money back if things go south. If Patrick Mahomes is unable to play Sunday, the line will most likely move in favor of the Bills. Set a placeholder before games knowing you can cash out.
  2. Don’t hedge too early. I am what the pro gamblers call a roller coaster sports bettor. I love getting into the games, I bet. Even if I lose, I can justify that I was paying for some great entertainment. The fact that I get into my games is awesome when I’m winning, but it awful when I am not. I often am too quick to hedge my bet (putting money on the opposite side to lose minimal money). After games, I find the hedge didn’t even work. It would have been best to ride on the original bet. Trust yourself and your reasoning!
  3. Know when to stop. We all have a good day, and we all have bad days. It’s imperative to recognize what type of day you’re having and accept it. It’s much easier to dig yourself out of a hole when you’re winning, but why not just stay out of holes! How to tell what type of day it is will be different for each bettor. For me, if I lose two in a row and suddenly feel the urge to bet two units on a subpar line, it’s time for a break. Only the bad bettors are addicted; don’t lose, and you won’t become an addiction. That was a lousy attempt at a joke. If you need help, call 1-800-522-4700
  4. Have your rituals. Sports betting is a blast, especially if you personalize it! This may or may not translate into more money, but when you’re having fun, your always winning! For me, I throw on my Xavien Howard Jersey and play some Madden. Occasionally glancing at the other monitor and subsequently muttering swear words. It should be fun!
  5. Live bet totals. One of my favorite things to bet on is live totals. Whether Brazilian Soccer or Russian youth soccer, the totals are rarely correct. Just today, I put a few units on a Brazilian Soccer total at -220 under 2. The score was 0-0 with 20 mins left. EASY MONEY! Because you can’t pronounce, the team name’s doesn’t mean you can’t make some money!
