Here we are, the final week of the College Basketball season. Honestly, I am so happy that we got the season we did and the Tournament as well for men and women. The games and upsets have been incredible to watch. It has also given us some games to watch during the week, which was a nice change of pace. The Elite 8 is today and tomorrow, so let’s take a look at today’s games.
The Beavers incredible run is still going! I have picked against them multiple times and so have many other people as well, but here they are. They have played outstanding defense, gotten great scoring from their bench, and shot the ball very well. Oregon St. has done everything you want a team to do in a knockout style tournament to stay alive and advance. While Houston is a different team and a much better team, Houston has struggled at times, which can leave the door open for an upset. The Cougars can go cold and have defensive lapses, which can lead to their opponent coming back and keeping the game close.
Houston enters as a -7.5 point favorite and they are playing good basketball as well. They took care of business and looked much better in their win over Syracuse. They will need to do the same to beat a pesky Oregon St. team tonight. The Cougars need to stay out of foul trouble and hope that DeJon Jarreau’s cramps are gone and that he did not injure himself as well. As long as that happens, they should be able to do what a lot of people have been picking them to do for a few years now: make the Final Four. I belive that will do just that and cover as well.
The Hogs escaped the pesky upset-minded Oral Roberts, but they did do some things better during that game. Rebounding was a huge factor in the game. They outrebounded the Golden Eagles 46-35 and 18-6 on the offensive end. They also need to improve on some things if they want to pull the upset tonight. Arkansas has to defend the 3 point shot better. Oral Roberts opened the game with 4 or 5 consecutive threes en route to a 7 point halftime lead. While Arkansas made the halftime adjustments that were necessary to win, they cannot afford a slow start tonight against a much tougher Baylor team.
The Bears enter as -7.5 point favorites as well. They also got off to a slow start against Villanova and the Wildcats were able to keep them game close for about 34 minutes before Baylor finally picked up the pace and took control. Baylor finally created enough turnovers, which was a huge part in their win. However, they need to play much better defense if they want to beat Arkansas. Villanova was missing a key piece in their lineup, which hurt them. Arkansas is not and if Baylor cannot slow the Hogs down, they will have a great chance to pull the upset.
In my bracket, I had Baylor losing this game to Ohio St. Granted it is a different matchup, but I am going to stick with my bracket and pick Arkansas to win this game. Moses Moody will have a even better game, and the Hogs will show why they are one of the top teams in the country.
I am so excited for tonight and tomorrow’s games! I hope you all have a great week and good luck with your bets!
